This
level of gymnastic instruction is an "introduction" level. The
goal of this program is to introduce
students to basic gymnastic skills, creating a foundation that
will prepare them for our mastery levels. Twice each year your
child will receive ribbons for each of the Olympic events: Vault,
Bars, Beam, and Floor for the girls, Floor, Pommel Horse, Rings,
Vault, Parallel Bars, and Horizontal Bar for the boys. Each gymnast

NOVICE
I,
NOVICE II, AND INTERMEDIATE |
These
classes comprise our "mastery" program. The goal of this program
is to aid students as they progress from basic gymnastic skills
to a more difficult and challenging skill level. Students will
receive an "evaluated" skill sheet twice a year. This skill sheet
will contain check marks noting all skills that the student has
mastered up to that date. Students will also receive ribbons per
Olympic event as the Kindergarten/1st Grade students, with the
total number of mastered skills listed on the back of each ribbon.

| TRAINERS |
These
classes are open to gymnasts by invitation only. Class members are
usually discovered in their Kindergarten/1st Grade, Novice I, Novice
II or Intermediate recreational classes. These gymnasts stand out
in their classes for their focus, strength, flexibility, physical
coordination and the desire to enter into the competitive level
of gymnastics. Age ranges for this group are generally from six
to twelve years old. Trainer Classes generally meet twice a week
for an hour and a half per class. Proper etiquette, body conditioning,
shaping and flexibility continue will prepare the gymnasts to enter
our team programs. Attention is paid to the USAG skills that will
prepare the gymnasts to enter our Team program. |

| TOPS |
"TOPS"
is the Talent Opportunity Program supported by the USA Gymnastics
Federation. High priority is placed on identifying children with
gymnastics potential and extending training opportunities to their
coaches with the National USA staff. Emphasis is on technical
progressions, dance, nutrition and sports psychology. During the
summer, gymnasts are evaluated on physical abilities at the state
or regional level. These dates are set by the regional TOPs manager
in conjunction with the National Elite Program Chairperson. From
this evaluation, athletes are invited to participate in the National
TOPs test that is conducted each Fall. At this National Testing,
gymnasts will be evaluated on the same physical abilities tests,
along with some basic gymnastics skills. The highest ranking athletes
are then invited to participate in the National TOPs Training
camp which takes place at the end of each year.
The goals for this program are to:
-
Identify young gymnasts between 7 to 11 years old that are not
currently seeking or training for elite or international level
competition.
-
Identify deficiencies in fitness and skill factors that can
be determined by scientific testing and interaction with regional
and national staff coaches. These deficiencies will be communicated
to both the athlete and the coach for remedial work.
- Enhance
the information flow and educational opportunities to talented
athletes, their parents or guardians, and their coaches to help
improve the athlete's training
GGA
coach, Judy Prestigiacomo Miller, conducts this testing program
for the Lawrenceville gym and GGA coach, Cassi Ballard, conducts
the the testing for the Suwanee gym. Judy also holds the highly-regarded
position for Georgia as the TOPS State Manager. |
